Dred Scott Decision

Presented by  Nathan Richardson -  In March of 1857 The Dred Scott Decision was handed down by the US Supreme Court in a 7-2 vote reversing prevailing law that gave protection to slaves on free soil and invalidating the 1820 Missouri Compromise. The decision is considered a major contributing factor to the start of the Civil War in 1861. Few Americans were more infuriated by the decision more than Abolitionist Frederick Douglass. Join us for a living history performance with Nathan M. Richardson as Frederick Douglass talks about the life of Dred Scott, and the historical impact of the Dred Scott Decision.
